Brown Tiny Carpet Beetle

These are the smallest of the carpet beetles measuring in at around 0 25cm.

They have an elongated body which is covered in hair or large setae. Their larvae are grublike and covered with hairs. They have a slightly rounded shell and are usually black brown in colour with flecks of white on their backs. Carpet beetles have a body that is wider towards the end.

The hair is organized in a way that it forms a combination of dark and light patches. Larvae young carpet beetles are 1 8 to 1 4 inch long and. Carpet beetles are a common indoor pest but most people don t notice them except for this time of year when adults are on the move. They may look mottled with black brown and white or be solid black depending on the species.

Most adult carpet beetles range from 2 mm to 5 mm in length with very short clubbed antennae and chewing mouthparts. They re tiny and the larvae are often hidden and protected in dark cracks crevices and out of the way sites. There are three different species of carpet beetle that are common in homes. It grows up to 5 mm in length.

Adult beetles have different sizes and colors but most are between one tenth of an inch and three sixteenths of an inch long. The larva of the carpet beetle is covered in visible thick brown stripes. The furniture and varied carpet beetles also bear unique coloured scales specific to the type. Carpet beetles in general are oval in shape and appear dark brown to black in colour.
